CELEBRITY SPORTS TEAMS TEE OFF:
FANS PLAY ONLINE OR WALK ALONG THE COURSE
BY JACKIE DEVEREAUX INDIO, CA - Pro-celebrity sports players are teeing off for charity at the Eagle Falls Golf Course adjacent to the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino here on June 6 and 7. Fans have the unique opportunity to walk along with their favorite sports player or play online. Fox Sports Net is televising the tournament with the four major professional sports teams (Basketball, Baseball, Football and Hockey), competing for charity. All Star Pro Basketball celebrity Charles Barkley (a non-playing captain and host of the tournament), and Hockey Stanley Cup winner, Mario Lemieux join Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees and Baseball Hall of Famer, Ozzie Smith as team captains. Celebrity sports announcer and former Oakland Raider Howie Long is also expected to attend with comedian Ray Romano to fill golf carts with jokes and fun. The weekend consists of a two-day, $250,000 charity golf tournament, where the four sports teams compete to bring home the grand prize of a $100,000; $75,000 for second place; $50,000 for third and $25,000 for fourth place. "Fans can walk with the pro players as they golf through Eagle Falls,? said Willie Maples, director of golf operations. "It'll be like the old way of following a golfer through the course,? Maples said, making this a very special up close and personal tournament. Fox Sports choose this course over a lot of Las Vegas, San Diego and Atlantic City sites because it films very well with waterfalls, lakes and rolling fairways, Maples said.
