"I feel very accomplished today,? said Stephens. "We worked with the youth and they took ownership of their city. It's an awesome accomplishment for the kids and our program.? The BGC began cleaning up Wardman Park at 7:00 a.m. while the 1 Heart group began with City Hall at around 9:00 a.m. After their cleanup efforts, the volunteer groups were treated to a barbecue lunch as well as entertainment from a mariachi group, dancers, and some Tai kwon do action. Plus, there was also an open house inside the BGC building as well as swimming for the young ones. At around 3:00, RCSD Deputy Julio Arana demonstrated his martial arts abilities by breaking bricks with his forehead, arm and fists. The kids were amazed by what he was able to do. About an hour earlier, the local Tai Kwon Do kids broke wooden boards with their elbows. This Cinco De Mayo celebration is a first for the city of Desert Hot Springs and the Boys and Girls Club, as CEO Adam Sanchez described. "It's quite evident that we're over capacity, because people would want to see this kind of event more and more,? he said. "They have families, kids, community residents who want to have a good time.
