BY LESLIE ANDREWS INDIO, CA- Marilyn Lang and Darlene Lindstrom of Landers, California have been waiting anxiously for a longtime for this day to happen. Tuesday, the couple of five years came to the Riverside County Clerk's Office in Indio to get their license. In fact, they were the first bunch to arrive before the doors opened. "We are so elated. Now we are equal with everybody else,? said Darlene. "We are no longer sitting at the back of the bus.? After a long awaited court battle, the California Supreme Court struck down Proposition 22, which banned gay marriages throughout the state back in May. Thirty days later, June 17th, gays and lesbians all over California could finally tie the knot. "I can now legally change my name to hers,? Marilyn said. "It's all legal now. We had our holy union three years ago. We're also domestic partners.? Marilyn and Darlene weren't the only ones who have had to jump through hurdles. Doug Hargrove and Warren Wood have been together for 47 years, and now finally can be married as well. "We are so pleased that we have the capability of being married. Now if only we could get our federal rights,? Warren told Fronteras. Mayor Steve Pougnet of Palm Springs was the first to conduct a gay wedding in Riverside County. "It's a very exciting and wonderful day,? he said. Moments later, after Philip Colavito and Dean Seymour got their license, the mayor took them outside to the grassy knolls to conduct their wedding. "This is the second time around for us,? Dean said. Philip added, "We will keep on doing this until everybody gets it right. We're as hopeful as everybody else. We live a good life.? Previously, Dean and Philip have been married in San Francisco back in 2004, but their marriage was annulled, struck down by the court. The two men have known each other since 2000, meeting at a yacht club in Los Angeles. "It was love at first sight,? Dean recalled.
