It's a Way of Life!
This summer water only your landscape, not the street!
Inspect and fix broken or leaking sprinkler heads.
Tips for Efficient Irrigation: ? Make sure your sprinkler is placed so it only waters the landscape, not the pavement. ? Water only in the early morning or the evening, avoiding the hottest times of day, to reduce water loss from evaporation. ? If you must have turf, water it in a few short sessions rather than a long one, to allow the turf to absorb the water better. Did You Know? Tips for Turf: ? Over watering is bad for plants and lawns. It promotes shallow root growth, making your lawn less hardy. ? Allowing your turf to grow slightly taller reduces water loss by provid- ing more ground shade for the roots and by promoting water retention in the soil. Maintain a lawn height of 2.5 to 3 inches.

Coachella Receives Several Grants For Key Projects
COACHELLA, CA- The City of Coachella has been seeing green lately, despite a slowing economy everywhere else. During the past few days, the city has received four substantial grants from two public agencies. Two of these grants have been presented from the Riverside County Transportation Commission, totaling $74,280. These monies will be used to build new sidewalks at Bobby Duke Middle School and Palm View Elementary School. Actually, the money will cover half the costs, while the other half will come from the city's capital improvement budget for the coming fiscal year beginning on July 1st. The projects will add 4,000 linear feet of new sidewalks to the areas surrounding both schools. Via telephone conference from Cambridge, Massachusetts, Mayor Eduardo Garcia commented, "What we will do is prioritize the areas near the schools where the sidewalks need to be built. This is part of our aggressive effort at both the state and federal levels. I think by seeking grant opportunities is a great idea.? The suspect in this incident is described as a male Hispanic subject, in his late teens or early twenties. Further described as being between 5'-7? and 5'-9? tall, thin build with a medium complexion. The suspect was wearing a dark colored beanie and dark baggie clothing. The suspect exited from the passenger side of a charcoal, metallic colored newer pick-up truck (NFD), approached Lora and fired multiple rounds, striking him about the upper torso. The subject re-entered the pick-up, which was driven away, westbound Granada Ave, towards West Drive. If you have any information about this incident, you are urged to call CrimeStoppers at (760) 341-STOP or the Desert Hot Springs Police Department at (760) 329-2904. 15 The other two grants were provided by the California Department of Housing and Community Development. Both grants are in the amount of $35,000 each and will be used for the following activities: A railroad spur feasibility study and the required update to the city's housing element, which is part of a new general plan under consideration that will be completed during the 2008/2009 fiscal year. Mayor Garcia added, "This will give an incentive to businesses to locate in our city.? Garcia concluded, "I'm proud of the efforts of our city staff that enabled to secure the grants for these important projects. One of the most important initiatives we have been focusing on in Coachella is aggressively and professionally soliciting grants from a wide variety of local, state and federal agencies to help support the needs of our young ang growing population and the ever expanding business community. The effort continues to pay off for us, and that is really exciting for everybody in Coachella.?
