Tornado deaths
Tornadoes killed at least 22 people and injured hundreds as they ripped through communities in the central and southeastern United States over the weekend. Authorities said 14 people died in Missouri, six in Oklahoma and two in Georgia as the storms tracked a course from the border of Kansas and Oklahoma Saturday into Georgia yesterday destroying homes, overturning cars, blocking roads, downing power lines and uprooting trees. Ten people died in Newton County, Missouri, on the border with Oklahoma, according to Susie Stonner of the Missouri Emergency Management Agency, adding that police had not ruled out finding more victims.

Bodies cause health concern
As the bloated bodies rise and fall with the current on the Pyapon River, women scrub clothes along the river bank, villagers bathe to cool themselves and a lone child sits on a dock staring aimlessly into the water. But with little aid getting through to desperate cyclone survivors, the dead have largely been forgotten - left to decay where the brackish waters carried them or waiting to be pulled out to sea by the rising tides. "The first few we saw, we were all very shocked,? said a monk from the area. "After a while, there were just too many.? More than 50 bodies can be spot-

"In some areas there are 5,000 bodies in waterways, stuck in fields and in the trees,? said Craig Strathern, spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Yangon, Myanmar's biggest city. Myanmar's monumental task of feeding and sheltering two million cyclone survivors suffered yet another blow when a Red Cross boat laden with relief supplies sank on its way to the disaster zone yesterday. The official death toll, meanwhile, jumped by 5,000 to more than 28,000 as aid groups warn of a humanitarian catastrophe. - The Associated Press No need to cancel your serviceprovider. $10 Free Long Distancefor everyfriend yourefer. AID HAMPERED
Though international assistance has started trickling in, the few foreign relief workers who have been allowed entry into Myanmar have been restricted to the largest city of Yangon. Only a handful have succeeded in getting into the worst-affected areas. But in what was seen as a huge concession by the ruling junta government, the United States finally got the go-ahead to send a cargo plane packed with supplies, with two more scheduled to land tomorrow. Myanmar's military rulers are deeply suspicious of Washington, which has long been one of the junta's biggest critics. * *
